Dead Disk Drive

My 360 (purchased April '09) has a bad disk drive. The only game I play on it is Grand Theft Auto 4. I'm really starting loath Microsoft and they're choice of hardware components. Anyone else have their drive go bad? A Google search revealed it's a somewhat common problem.

Unlucky man... one of my friends' 360s had their disk drive screw up and now he has to like hit it in a certain way for it to work lol.

I tried hitting it, but still nothing. I've packed it up to take it back to Best Buy (or ship it to Microsoft) but I haven't yet. I miss my GTA

If it helps, my GTA on ps3 works fine. LOL

Well thanks. I'm considering getting a PS3. I've had enough with Microsoft, and Sony is a pretty good company (they make good laptops and camcorders anyway).

I wouldn't totally give up on xbox can I ask which console you have?

I've got an arcade. I only bought it because none of my computers would run GTA 4. I figured if I needed more space I could slap a hard drive on it.

What's the actual problem with the disk drive does it not open at all?

It opens and closes, it just doesn't read the disk. It displays "Open Tray'.

You know you've got an awesome product when there is an entire wikipedia page listing it's problems.

The 360 has it's faults but it still is a brilliant console.

I had the E74 error, so I bought an elite and haven't had any problems since but will probably look into getting the E74 fixed so I can trade in the old one for the 360 slim.

The consoles can be fixed by Microsoft if you contact them. I'm not sure if they charge any more but it was £30 before...

Well I opened the case :O and wasn't able to get to the disk drive, so I'll ship it off. Apparently they send me a console to use while mine is in repair, so that's nice.

Ye that's good. The 360 is good so I wudnt switch just yet
